Reviving Saarc is a Sisyphean task, but it is one Bangladesh is uniquely positioned to undertake. In a world of hardening blocs, South Asia cannot afford to be the only region without a voice.
For Bangladesh, the closure of the Strait of Hormuz would not represent a diplomatic crisis with Tehran. It would represent a market crisis. The country’s exposure lies in its increasing dependence on globally traded LNG without deep diversification, strategic reserves, or substantial domestic alternatives.
All of us who care about Bangladesh have lost a great friend and mentor and a strong voice for the country and its people. The best way we can honour his life and legacy is to continue his life’s work.

The US has accidentally left a vacuum that Europe has been taking advantage of to establish itself as a geopolitical power. Europe does not have to remain hooked to the shackles of the dependency that was the Cold War, but now, it can move in its own direction and make new alliances and address what concerns it.
Soon we will no longer be able to rely on Prof Yunus's global reputation to smooth things over with allies and adversaries alike. It is time for Bangladesh to invest in its diplomatic capacity. The future belongs to those who can skillfully maneuver on the world stage.
