My experiences convinced me that Singapore's greatest achievement lies neither in its skyline nor in its wealth. It lies in how it develops its people. That is why, whenever Bangladesh debates education reform, my thoughts return to Singapore.
Bangladesh has all the ingredients for success -- a dynamic private sector, a young and hardworking population, and a strategic geographic position connecting major markets. Its achievements over the past decades demonstrate what is possible when determination and policy alignment come together.
For a nation like Bangladesh, the challenge is not whether to depend on others, but how to manage that dependence intelligently. The question, then, is not how to escape vassalhood, but how to master it.
